Guidelines on Registration and Curriculum
1) Students whose Proficiency Exam scores are C are required to take AE 111 and AE 112. Students whose Proficiency Exam scores are B and above are required to take AE 200-level or above.
2) Courses from the HSS list can be taken in lieu of the required HIST/HUM courses.
3) PE/PA courses can only be taken as non-credit.
4) Math/Science electives can be selected from MATH, BIO, CHEM, PHYS, ESC, CMPE, DSAI courses. (STS courses are not Math/Science electives.)
5) TID courses can be taken as foreign language electives. They are not departmental electives.
6) Ottoman Turkish, Old Anatolian Turkish, Latin, Ancient Greek courses are not foreign language electives. They can be taken as unrestricted electives.
7) Of the total required FOUR foreign language courses, at least two of them should be in the same language.
8) A student has the right for up to three withdrawals in the fall and spring semesters (+ two additional withdrawals for courses taken in the summer semesters). The system will not allow a withdrawal if it leads to an underload.
9) Only students with a GPA of 3.00 or higher are allowed to register with a credit overload.
10) LING 411 and 412 are not consecutive courses. That is, 411 is not the prerequisite of 412. However, it might be wise to take them in this order, depending on the topic. Students can decide with their advisors.
11) Senior students can register for MA level electives but not for MA level required/must courses.
12) Foreign language courses cannot be taken in the first semester. In the second semester, this is only allowed for students with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
13) If you repeat a course X with another course Y and pass Y, the system will not let you take X again in another semester. It will show you a message like "You have already passed this course".
